About Each Park
Great Wolf Lodge Concord
North Carolina
Great Wolf Lodge Concord brings the chain's signature indoor water park magic to North Carolina, combining a themed resort experience with a 38,000-square-foot water wonderland that stays open year-round. The park centers around a massive multi-level play structure called Fort Mackenzie, which dumps hundreds of gallons of water from a giant tipping bucket while kids scramble around cargo nets and smaller slides. The four-story interactive water fort keeps families busy for hours with its maze of bridges, water cannons, and surprise soakings. The lazy river here is one of the better ones I've experienced at Great Wolf properties - long enough to actually relax and not feel like you're just going in circles. Howlin' Tornado stands out as the signature thrill slide, a massive funnel that sends rafts swirling around the walls before dropping into the splash pool below. Younger kids gravitate toward Cub Paw Pool, a dedicated shallow area with mini slides and gentle water features. The wave pool generates decent-sized waves every few minutes, though it can get packed during peak times. Beyond the water attractions, the resort adds extra entertainment with an arcade, mini golf, and their popular MagiQuest wand game that has kids running around the hotel solving quests. The theming throughout feels immersive with its North Woods cabin aesthetic and animatronic wolves that howl on schedule. Food options inside the water park are limited to snack bars, but the resort has several restaurants. I'd recommend arriving right when the water park opens to claim spots…

North Carolina
Boomerang Bay gives you two parks for the price of one, which honestly makes it one of the better deals you'll find in the Carolinas. The water park sits right inside Carowinds, so you can literally go from screaming down a 75-foot water slide to riding Fury 325 without leaving the property or paying extra. The water park itself has that classic Six Flags feel - well-maintained but not overly fancy. You've got your standard lineup of body slides and tube slides, plus a decent wave pool that gets crowded fast on summer weekends. The lazy river moves at a good pace and actually stays cool thanks to some shaded sections. Kids have their own dedicated splash area with smaller slides and water features, so families with mixed age groups can spread out comfortably. The park works best for families who want variety in their day. Your teenagers can hit the big slides while parents float the lazy river, and then everyone can meet up for roller coasters later. Just know that summer weekends turn this place into a zoo. I always recommend arriving right when they open and hitting the water slides first - by noon, you'll be waiting 20+ minutes for everything. The food situation is typical theme park fare, so pack snacks if you're budget-conscious. Cabanas book up fast but they're worth it if you're staying all day, especially since you'll want a home base for switching between wet and dry clothes. What sets Boomerang Bay apart…
