Rapids Water Park

Rapids Water Park sits on 35 acres in West Palm Beach and feels like the kind of place locals have been coming to for decades. The Black Thunder you mentioned is their signature ride - a massive funnel slide that shoots you through complete darkness before dumping you into a giant bowl where you swirl around before dropping through the bottom. It's genuinely terrifying in the best way possible.

The park has that classic Florida water park vibe with plenty of palm trees and a surprisingly good mix of attractions. Their multi-level play structure keeps younger kids busy for hours with smaller slides, water buckets, and climbing areas. The lazy river actually moves at a decent pace, which I appreciate since some parks make theirs so slow you practically fall asleep.

For thrill seekers, they have several body slides and tube slides that pack more punch than you'd expect. The wave pool gets pretty crowded on weekends but the waves are strong enough to actually body surf. What I like about Rapids is that it doesn't try to be the biggest or flashiest park in South Florida, but everything they have works well.

The lines move pretty quickly, even on busy days. Get there right when they open if you're visiting during summer or on weekends. The parking lot fills up fast and you'll want to claim a spot in the shade early.

Bring reef-safe sunscreen because you'll need it - there's not as much covered area as some newer parks. The food is typical water park fare but reasonably priced for the area. If you've got a group, definitely look into their cabana rentals since finding chairs can be tough during peak times.

This park works well for families with kids who can handle bigger slides, though they have enough gentler options to keep everyone happy.
