Big Kahuna's Water and Adventure Park sits right off Highway 98 in Destin, and it's exactly what you'd expect from a mid-sized Florida water park - nothing fancy, but solid fun for families. The park combines water attractions with dry rides, which is pretty smart when you want to keep everyone happy. Their water slide tower has four different slides ranging from gentle family rides to steeper drops that'll get your heart pumping.

The lazy river here is one of the better ones I've experienced - it's long enough that you actually get to relax, and the theming with tropical plants makes it feel like you're floating through a jungle. The wave pool creates decent waves every 15 minutes, though it gets packed during peak times. What really works at Big Kahuna is the kids' area.

It's well-designed with smaller slides, water features, and that giant tipping bucket that dumps water every few minutes. Your little ones will be entertained for hours while you grab a chair nearby. The dry attractions include go-karts, mini golf, and an arcade, which gives you options when people need a break from the water.

The food court serves typical park fare - pizza, burgers, chicken strips - nothing gourmet but it hits the spot. I always recommend arriving when they open, especially in summer. The parking lot fills up fast, and you'll want to claim your lounge chairs early.

Rent a cabana if you're visiting with a big group - they're reasonably priced and give you a home base for the day. Don't forget sunscreen because there's limited shade around the main pool areas. Big Kahuna works best for families with kids under 12, though teenagers will find enough to keep them busy.

It's not going to compete with the massive Orlando parks, but for a day in Destin when you want something different from the beach, it delivers exactly what you need.
