About Each Park
Dorney Park Wildwater Kingdom
Pennsylvania
Wildwater Kingdom sits right next to Dorney Park's amusement park in Allentown, and honestly, the combo ticket is the way to go if you're planning a full day. This outdoor water park has that classic Pennsylvania summer vibe - it gets busy on hot weekends, but the shade trees scattered throughout actually make it more comfortable than some of the concrete jungle water parks I've visited. The wave pool here is solid, with waves that are strong enough to be fun but not so intense that parents worry about their kids. The lazy river winds around a good portion of the park, and I always grab a tube early because they do run out during peak times. The slide complex has a nice mix - some family raft rides where everyone can go together, plus a few body slides that'll get your heart pumping without being terrifying. The kids' area is well-designed with smaller slides and interactive water features that keep the little ones entertained while parents can actually relax nearby. What I really like about Wildwater Kingdom is how it feels integrated with the main park. You can hop between the water park and the roller coasters, which is perfect for families where some people want to cool off while others chase thrills on dry land. Pennsylvania
Camel Beach sits at the base of the Pocono Mountains in Tannersville, giving you mountain views while you cool off in the water. This place gets busy on summer weekends, so I always tell people to arrive right when they open if you want to snag a good spot for your stuff. The wave pool is solid and definitely the main gathering spot. It cycles every 10 minutes or so, and the waves are strong enough to be fun without being scary for younger kids. The water slide selection covers all the bases. You've got your standard body slides for speed demons, tube slides for people who want a bit more control, and gentler options for kids who are still building up their courage. The kiddie area is well-designed with smaller slides and splash features that'll keep the little ones entertained while parents can actually relax nearby. What I really like about Camel Beach is how they've used the natural terrain. Some of the slides are built right into the hillside, so you get longer rides than you'd expect. The lazy river winds around a good portion of the park, and it's actually lazy unlike some parks where it feels like a water highway. Food options are typical water park fare but reasonably priced for what you get. I'd still recommend packing snacks if they allow it. The cabana rentals are worth it if you're going with a bigger group or want guaranteed shade. They book up fast on peak…
